Jazz
Jazz Band

A full week of jazz studies, from performing with a "big band" to studying jazz theory and improvisation, performing in combos, attending jazz master classes and having the option to study privately with one of IMC's artist-teachers. Students performing in a combo will participate in a Friday afternoon performance, and big bands will perform on Saturday. Guitar and bass students must bring their own amps, and drummers must bring their own sets. This program is open to students completing grades 7-12 with at least three years of playing experience. Optional private lessons are highly encouraged!

Kick Start for Jazz Rhythm

Get the fundamentals straight from the "pros." This program is for students who have at least completed grade 7 and have at least one year of experience on guitar, bass, or drums. Piano players must have at least four years of piano background. All students should have a solid background on their instrument. The "Kick-Start" program will introduce students to jazz theory and improvisation at the very beginning level and will help the student develop the basic fundamentals and skills for performance in a jazz band rhythm section. All "Kick-Start" students will be required to take private lessons.

Vocal Jazz

Vocal Jazz is held during Session 5 in conjunction with the instrumental jazz program. In addition to participating in jazz choir, students will learn vocal jazz theory and improvisation, scat singing, vocal jazz styling's, solo singing techniques and more! This program is open to students completing grades 8-12 with a strong vocal background.
