Multi-Purpose Facility

The newest addition to the building complex at IMC is just about complete.  May 31, 2008 is the target date for the completion
of the Alme International Arts Center and June 21, 2008 is the date set for dedication activities.  The Board of Directors of the INTERNATIONAL MUSIC CAMP voted recently to name the new facility in honor of former camp director Joseph T. Alme and his wife Joyce.  The Almes played a critical role in the success story of IMC’s first 50 years.

Joe Alme served as camp director from September of 1983 until August 31, 2006, and he influenced the participation of over 50,000 students, as well as a massive expansion of IMC facilities.  The INTERNATIONAL MUSIC CAMP and the International Peace Garden have benefited from the Almes’ efforts to promote and attract students from every state and province in North America including more than 70 countries around the world.

Joe and Joyce Alme led the campaign to raise more than $1,000,000.00 for the new arts center with the campaign continuing in an effort to raise funds for annual maintenance costs and miscellaneous furnishings.  According to Mr. Alme, “Thanks to the generosity of numerous individuals, clubs, music organizations and the State of North Dakota tax dollars, the ongoing campaign has been most successful.”

IMC friends, as well as the general public, including campers and parents are invited to witness dedication ceremonies scheduled for June 21, 2008.

The Alme International Arts Center will fill the need for more space to accommodate a growing IMC.  It will house the new, state-of-the-art Frances Leach Library, a resource center which will house more than 10,000 band, choir, orchestra, jazz and chamber music compositions, as well as numerous private collections donated over the past 50 years; a multi-purpose room for rehearsals, classes, recitals and presentations; a historical resource center; a composers center & a music technology classroom.
