33rd Annual International Old-Time Fiddle Contest & Acoustic Workshops

June 5, 6, & 7, 2008

 Located at the International Music Camp in the International Peace Garden on the border between North Dakota and Manitoba. (approx. 15 miles north of Dunseith, ND or 15 miles south of Boissevain, MB)

FIDDLE CONTEST 
The Contest will begin at 5:00 pm on June 6th and will conclude with the Championship Finals on June 7th.

Judges: Paul
Anastasio and Patti Lamoureux.

Entry Fee: $10.00 to enter the contest (Small-Fry, Junior-Junior and anyone registered for the fiddle workshops are exempt from the $10.00 entry fee.)

Prizes: Over $2,000.00 in prize money and trophies will be awarded.  First place winners in each division will be exempt from paying an entry fee at the International Old-Time Fiddlers Contest in Weiser, ID and will have their photos on display in the International Old-Time Fiddlers Hall of Fame. 

WORKSHOPS
Fiddle, Guitar, Banjo and Accordion workshops will begin Thursday, June 5th at 9:00 am and conclude on June 6th at 3:00 pm.

INSTRUCTORS:
Fiddle

Paul Anastasio
is a classically trained violinist turned country & Bluegrass fiddler.  He studied with Joe Venuti and has performed with Merle Haggard, Larry Gatlin & Loretta Lynn.  Paul has studied and performed with the top fiddlers in popular music, including Joe, Holley, Cliff Bruner, Johnny Gimble & Buddy Spicher.  He is in demand as both a performer and teacher.

 

Eric Christopher is a Minnesota Music Award–nominated fiddler who has performed or recorded with dozens of Americana/alternative country artists, including Tina and the B-Sides, Accident Clearinghouse, and John Casey, and has shared the stage with the likes of Ralph Stanley, Gillian Welch, the Jayhawks and Sheryl Crow.

 

 

Patti Lamoureux is a three time Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Champion and has taught extensively throughout Canada.  With more than 13 recordings to her credit, she is in high demand for performances, teaching, recording, and judging fiddle contests across the continent.

 

 

Guitar
Adam Granger is a te
acher, performer and adjudicator with a specialty in Bluegrass and Country music.  Adam has written about, taught and played fiddle tunes in the flat-pick style for over 25 years.  He is a veteran member of the house band for the "Prairie Home Companion" and has recorded six albums.

5-String Banjo
John Andrus has taught 5-string banjo for nearly 20 years.  His teaching emphasizes group playing skills and interacting with other musicians.   

Accordion

Gerald Schlag comes to the International Music Camp for the first time in 2008.  Gerald has numerous recording to his credit and is a member of the Dakota Music Hall of Fame.

CONCERT
Featuring Paul
Anastasio, Patti Lamoureux, Adam Granger, Myron Dammen and Jacky Morris is scheduled for June 6th at 8:15 pm in the Burdick Center for the Performing Arts.  The Burdick Center is rated among the top ten facilities in North America for its excellent acoustical qualities. 

Admission: $12.00 USD for persons not registered as a Workshop/Contestant participant.
