Emergency Procedures

First Aid

The person designated to administer first aid is the camp health attendant. This person must possess a current CPR and first aid certification or possess and RN, LPN or EMT license. A registered nurse is always available for consultation as needed and in most instances, a registered nurse is in residence as the health care attendant for the entire session. If a camper is registering for camp and has special health needs, please call the camp office so that accommodations can be made.

First aid kits are placed in the dorms, the administrative office. the first aid station and any other areas which pose risk of injuy.

Emergency Medical Care

If medical care is needed it will be ascertained if the individual is a Canadian or a U.S. citizen and the appropriate clinic or emergency room will be accessed. The general camp practice is to contact parents when there is a concern about a camper's health prior to treatment if the situation permits this or as quickly as possible in an emergency situation. When necessary the camp may leave voice mail messages that communicate the need for a parent to call the camp.

Severe Weather

Should threatening weather strike, the Camp director will make the decision based on weather reports to move camp occupants to the storm shelter located in the basement of the Burdick Center. The Deans will assist the students to the Burdick Center, take roll to determine if all the students are accounted for and stay with them the throughout the weather alert.

The emergency weather plan is reviewed every Sunday night during student orientation. Severe weather drills are also called by the Camp Director on an as needed basis.

Fire

Fire procedures are reviewed weely at the Sunday night dorm meeting. the Deans are to make sure all campers know where the fire exits are and what to do if a fire crisis occurs.
